LifeDimensions-4D Imaging
TM Is LifeDimensions-4D Imaging a 3D process? Yes and no… LifeDimensions-4D Imaging (LD-4D) is definitely not what has unfortunately become known as 3D photography:
4D laser holograms appearing to be in midair – these are definitely 4D images but have a very distinct disadvantage of being projected monochromatically, i.e., in an unselectable single color: either red, orange, yellow, green or blue, making for a very strange portrait! Also, since the laser holograms are recorded by a single intense pulse of coherent light, the long-term effects are still a safety concern, especially for the eyes of the subject. Just how is LifeDimensions-4D Imaging so different? Well, until recently portraits, for instance, whether photographs or paintings, have been flat. They are actually 2D: that is, they have width (dimension X) and they have height (dimension Y) but they lack true depth (dimension Z). Rembrandt was a master at using shadows to emphasize the illusion of depth but, for all his efforts, his paintings remained flat. Not so with Michelangelo: he was both a painter and a sculptor and, while his paintings were also flat, he turned to sculpting blocks of marble, infinitely more difficult, to give true depth to his works! If you look at a sculpture or a real live face, you see depth: you see the eyes further back than the nose and the ears further back than the eyes. You can also change your position and see them from a side. That is true 3-Dimensionality of real objects (full depth as well as full width and height) and we see the depth because we have two eyes… and it is no coincidence that so do all seeing creatures. It is having two eyes that enable us to judge distances: close one eye and this marvelous effect disappears. Click here for a more scientific and detailed explanation of 3-Dimensionality.
LD-4D is Imaging in full color and in full depth with a realistic "Look-around Effect". These exclusive effects remain constant at any viewing angle. The process did not happen overnight. The LifeDimensions-4D Imaging technology resides in our unique LD-4D camera (patent-pending) using advanced proprietary digital technology. This technology was developed over more than 30 years of research and experimentation. Though an LD-4D portrait (currently up to 20 x 24 inches!) can be hung on a wall or even turned into a stunning business card, you see the LD-4D portrait in full depth so that it looks just like a live person looking out of the picture frame. Unfortunately the full LD-4D Imaging effect cannot be reproduced on web pages or video screens – their technology has not yet caught up with ours – so the LD-4D pictures you see here employ Web Animation to make them more realistic. You really have to see LifeDimensions-4D Imaging “in person” to be able to appreciate its value for family heirlooms of adults and children, for promotional portraits of actors, advertising models and sports figures, even for museum pieces and prize orchids.
FIG. 1 FIG. 2 FIG. 3 Let’s take a moment to gain a better understanding of LiveDimensions-4D Imaging by considering the 3 portraits
shown above. Figure 1 is
a regular full front image. Figure 2
(Profile) is a representation of true-to-life depth ( in LD-4D
)
of the subject shown on FIG. 1.
Figure 3 (compressed profile) is a representation of the
same subject's compressed
depth dimension found in other popular "3-Ds". The challenge, for about 160
years since the inception of photography, has been to combine Figures 1 and 2
into a smooth portrait – and in full color, when viewed from
any angle. This challenge, in
portraiture, has finally been met today in LiveDimensions-4D Imaging, an
exclusive product available only from Creative
Rays, Inc. Drawing again on the analogy of sculpture, popular 3D photographs that do not have to rely on funny glasses, really resemble bas-relief carvings, with good depiction of width and height but with seriously foreshortened depth. A LiveDimensions-4D portrait, on the other hand, has the natural appearance of a full 3-Dimensional sculpture. |
